- 60% of consumers agree that more TV and movie content is becoming accessible across multiple platforms.
Streaming platforms may be cutting back on original content, but viewers are still happy with what they’ve been watching. According to a new study from Hub Entertainment Research, nearly 80% of subscribers say they’re spending more time watching shows they genuinely enjoy. This is up from 68% during the height of the pandemic in 2020.
That increase also comes in spite of an overall dip in the number of new content releases from streaming platforms. Instead, older TV series are becoming more popular — 60% of viewers now favor long-running shows, an increase from 54% three years ago. When it comes to original content, Netflix still remains the leader, but fewer viewers (55%) than last year (60%) see it as a stand out in this arena. And as studios cash in by licensing content to other services, 60% of viewers say they’re spotting more of their favorite shows hopping across platforms. These changes highlight how the streaming landscape is evolving, with platforms prioritizing revenue opportunities over sheer volume of original programming.
